The national standardized child safety technician certification course is four days long and combines classroom instruction, hands-on work with car seats and vehicles, and a community safety seat check-up event.
Topics covered will include:
Child Passenger Safety Technician Role
Injury Prevention and Crash Dynamics
Seat Belt Systems
Air Bags
Lower anchors and tethers for children
Introduction to car seats and booster seats
Children in rear facing seats
Children in forward facing seats
Children in booster seats and seat belts
CPS in other vehicles
Installation and communication
Recertification and Check-up event
There will be 3 quizzes and 3 hands-on skills assessments during this course.
Successful completion of this course certifies the individual as a CPS technician for two (2) years.

This course is being co-sponsored with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Traffic Safety.
This course has been certified by the ILETSB. It does not meet any of the state mandates.
