Course Overview:
The focus of this course is to provide law enforcement personnel with specialized training that will assist in developing the knowledge and skill level needed to effectively and professionally combat today's most dangerous street gangs. These 16 hours (2·day} course will provide strategies to vigorously target, investigate, interview/interrogate, prosecute and prevent resurgence of criminal street gangs.
Course goals will include:
• Understanding today’s gang alliances and their growing social network
• Gangs in schools
• Effective street interviewing
• Conducting gang investigations- graffiti to homicide
• Being successful in the interview- getting confessions from sang members
• Strategize your follow up attack- eradication strategies
Course requirements: Law enforcement personnel, Civilians approved by the instructor prior to the beginning of the course.
Methods of evaluation: Participants will be evaluated based on the instructor's observations and classroom participation. NITAB will provide participants with a QR code to evaluate the course content and instructor.
Methods of instruction: This course is conducted using the following methods:
• In-class lecture
• Video
• In-class practical case examples, exercises and open discussion
• In-class verbal evaluations of the participants performance
Required Reading: All required handouts, including the GCD class manual.
Attendance Policy: This is a state-certified course therefore a participant is only allowed to miss 10% or 1.6 hours of instruction. If a participant misses more than 10% he/she will receive a memo of attendance from the Director of NITAB, but will not receive any credit for mandate(s). It is strongly suggested that all attendees be present for the entire course (16 hours) to maximize the overall experience associated with this course. Should a temporary absence from the class be necessary, it remains the responsibility of the attendee to notify the instructor as soon as possible.
Academic integrity: As always, all attendees are required to remain ethical and professional. In any case where a verbal or written exam is presented during the course, no cheating is allowed.
