This course has been certified by the ILETSB and approved to meet the following mandates:
De-Escalation Techniques - 2.0 hours  (2.0 hours of scenario based)

Enter through Dillion Hall and take the elevator to the basement. Once you exit the basement, the Simulator Room will be across the main hall in room BK08.

PURPOSE OF COURSE: 
This 2-hour course has been developed to provide sworn officers with a full range of force options across the use-of-force continuum in response scenarios, from providing a professional and non-threatening officer presence as a deterrent to the application of various soft and hard less-than-lethal techniques to, when necessary, effective marksmanship training. 
 

COURSE GOALS: 
•    Evaluate officers' performance on "Use of Force" scenarios and corresponding Decision-making processes 
•    Evaluate verbal skills 
•    Review legal aspects of use of force by peace officers. 
•    Review lawful use of force procedures in defense of self and others. 
•    Review proper safe gun handling skills. Review proper stance, presentation, sight picture and sight alignment of the pistol. 

SAFETY PROTOCOLS: 
•    Safety is a priority for all courses, especially those that involve hands-on drills and techniques. Safety measures for this course include: 
•    All students will be searched prior to the start of each training session, and upon each return to the training area. 
•    No live weapons or ammo will be allowed in the classroom training area, and a live firearm inspection will be conducted. 
•    Participants will be polled to identify any injury or medical prohibitions for participation. 
•    Physical drills will be directly monitored, and appropriate injury precautions will be followed.
