PURPOSE OF COURSE: To provide an end user knowledge for building searches and room entry.
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This class and it’s POIs are intended to teach a baseline level of knowledge on room entry and structure clearing for 2 and 4 man teams. While applicable to them, this is not a SWAT or operators class, but is geared toward patrol officers, SROs, and others who will be the first responders. Topics discussed are speed of movement (deliberate, hasty, dynamic), threshold assessments, the meter rule, sectors of fire, not over-penetrating rooms, plates and barrels, and other fundamentals. Students will understand the “search to contact” and “move to contact” styles of movement. Scenarios, force on paper, and force on paper will be done throughout the day to pressure test skills.
COURSE GOALS: The goals of this course are as follows:
• To teach a deliberate, hasty, and dynamic approach to room/structure clearing.
• To provide a baseline knowledge of proper searching techniques within structures.
• To show and explain the difference in cover and concealment.
• To teach a proper threshold assessment of the room from the outside.

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Must attend all 8 hours.
SAFETY PROTOCOLS:
Prior to training commencing at the shoot house or training center, a thorough safety and med brief will be conducted. Primary and secondary medical and communications personnel will be designated. The location of the IFAK kit will be known to all. An extensive safety briefing will be conducted to establish a plan, establish a mindset, define what is and is not acceptable, as well as to limit department liability. Students will pat themselves down, students will pat each other down, instructors will conduct a final pat down. No live weapons are allowed in the training area at any time. If anyone leaves the area, they are patted down upon reentry. If agency policy dictates someone stays hot, that person will be designated.
With the availability of the shoot house, class will be broken in to two groups throughout the day. This will allow students continuous repetitions, minimize down time, and will let them run scenarios with other students as well.
