COURSE CONTENT:

This training provides officers with the opportunity to develop advanced skills and knowledge that will assist them in identifying alcohol and drug impaired drivers. ARIDE provides a basic understanding required for the collection of the appropriate biological specimens necessary for a successful prosecution.

ARIDE teaches officers, regardless of assignment, the information they need to expand their knowledge and develop the additional skills necessary to recognize and arrest alcohol, drug impaired drivers or drivers impaired by both alcohol and drugs.

The law enforcement officer will also be trained to conduct additional tests including Lack of Convergence, Modified Romberg Balance, and Measuring Pupil Sizes. A major focus of this course is on the examination of a drug-impaired suspect's eyes.

The law enforcement officer will become more familiar with the DECP program and its functions.

Impairment to the evaluating DRE officer for a more complete and accurate assessment of the impairment. ARIDE trained officers learn to recognize when the assistance of a DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) is necessary and what information the DRE will need to establish a working relationship designed to result in a successful prosecution.
