COURSE:  Use of Force:  De-Escalation, High Risk Traffic Stops, and Hands-On Scenario Based Training

LESSON DESCRIPTION:  
This course is designed to train Officers on fundamental tactics required during high-risk patrol operations.  The primary focus of this training is to develop officers who are prepared to apply proper, and proportionate force when required.  Trainers will facilitate dynamic scenario-based role-playing throughout this course.  Through scenarios attendees will apply de-escalation strategies, and proportional force that aligns with the countervailing governmental interest.  At the completion of this course students will be able to demonstrate proficiency with the following tasks:  De-escalation techniques, High Risk Traffic stops, Building Search tactics, and Arrest/React team tactics.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:      

•    Understand and identify high-risk patrol operations while incorporating them into daily patrol activities.
•    Identify and discuss use-of-force and safety priority issues related to high-risk patrol incidents.  These include immediate defense of life, law, police, procedure, and established safety priorities.
•    Describe the appropriate and necessary equipment to be used when conducting these types high risk patrol tasks.  Including proper weapon selection, and uniform considerations.
•    Demonstrate practical knowledge and performance ability while conducting high-risk patrol operations, as well as movement formations, verbal skills, firearms handling/deployment skills, and  teamwork.
•    Demonstrate proper Use of Force and De-Escalation techniques.
•    Properly perform building searches & room clearing
•    Properly take a suspect into physical custody.
•    Demonstrate proper use of cover, concealment, and time.
•    Properly perform High-Risk traffic stops.
•    Perform proper vehicle clearing.
